How to remove toolbox dzus

I’d like to remove the toolbox dzus to prepare the toolbox for paint but afraid to damage the toolbox itself
Appears to be held in place by a washer

Destroy the aluminium washer and it comes out.
When I replace the Dzus I fit a nylon washer outboard and another inboard. Use a smaller internal diameter than the Dzus diameter to captivate.

I replaced mine with a key lock, secured with a nut and, still using the original catch mechanism
