RGS copper head gasket
« on: 04.01. 2026 17:52 »
Hi. Could anyone let me know the best supplier for a copper head gasket on my 1962 RGS. I'm not sure of the original BSA specification for the gasket thickness, but I've seen variations between 1mm -3mm advertised....many thanks.

Howard.

G'day Howard.
1mm is the standard thickness.
Our very own CheeserBeezer would be my first port of call.

Hi Howard,
The alloy heads suffer from "concaving" around the bolt holes, this also squeezes the alloy to tighten around the bolt shanks.
The fix is to have the bolt holes spot faced flat and get some thick high tensile washers in the correct 3/8 hole size. I went to the trouble of machining some 3mm thick washers from stainless steel,
it was tough going *eek*.
This is a "forever" fix *smile*
Do not forget to anneal the copper gasket !! I also put a very thin smear of Hylomar around the pushrod tunnel and the oil drain holes
