What was your first bike ?
« on: 05.11. 2015 12:08 »
I'll start this with mine, living in France at age 14, a neighbour gave me an old Solex. Was happy like an ape with a banana :O) and spent endless hours just using petrol and driving around aimlessly.

Later got a 'proper' bike, Honda 50. Was I proud with the Honda :O) Those were the days.

(Please post a picture (not too large please), either from the web or, much better, from personal collection)

DT1 Yamaha, followed by a DT1 Yamaha, followed by another 3 DT1 Yamahas. Followed by A DT360A and a RD350B, and a PE400 and........(list continues).

Mind you, lurking in the back tool shed on the sheep station in amongst the Honda Benlys and SL175's  was the old BSA plunger A10 that dad had bought new, and given to me as my inheritance. It seemed too old to be interesting until in 1980 I restored it, and finally discovered what a real motorcycle was all about!

Mine was a 53' A10 plunger outfit bought Sept 1965 , complete with a double adult chair , my dear old mans way to try to save me from myself, being only 15, 16 in Jan 1966 and on the road with her on my birthday,2 weeks later the d/adult had gone replaced by a board , ha ha, fooled him !! next a 50cc Italian sports bike complete with clip ons etc part of a team raced by Horsmans where I then worked and left for yrs ,sadly never on the road, sold to fund my next a twin pipe Square four only had that for 2 mths sold to get  A10 another outfit, a 54 s/arm model again with board fitted , a pattern developing methinks, this bike was unburstable the abuse it took was legend and so reliable , bought a 59 A7ss from work and still have her .she has morphed into a10 ,that I simply love ,so this 25/jan I'll celebrate being 66 also riding bikes for 50 yrs (mostly all BSA ) and will remember some fine bikes and the memories I still have of 'em  , cheers E a great idea for a post..Bob

1970 Suzuki B100P. I was 17 the day after Elvis died, but on apprentice camp at the time. I had to wait until I got home at the end of the week before taking my first ride on the public highway. First get off was three weeks later racing down to the pub on a Friday night trying to get one in before closing time.
1967 Honda CD175 was my second bike some 8 months later. Still on L plates but felt I need something a little larger to get my girl on the back.
A year later and I’d moved that on to get my first and only A10.

My first motorised two-wheeler was a James Autocycle, 98cc Villiers engine that I liberated from my grandpa's shed. I was too young to ride on the road but terrorised the neighbours while riding around the cinder surfaced estate service road behind the houses.
When I was old enough to have a road bike I bought an Excelsior Consort, 98cc Villiers engine with two gears.
Later I got an Aerial Huntmaster with sidecar chassis, plus toolbox.
Next up was a gutless Triumph 21, 350cc

1946 BSA C11 rigid frame with telescopic forks. Despite being abused by a Jack the lad teenager it was so reliable. That was followed a by a Bantam, and then when I passed my test a Sunbeam S8. After that I had a Douglas MK V, an 80+, and a Dragonfly. All good bikes. Also had a Triumph 500. That was not a very reliable bike.

Honda SS50 moped,.... '74-'75.

 Yamaha YDS7 250,.... '76.

A65,.... '76-'77.

B33,....'77.

A65,....'78-'83.

A10,....'79-now.

That's it apart from a Suzuki GS850 I used for despatch riding....'89-''91.

Seven bikes in 40 odd years, I'm not much of a one for change.  *smile*

I bought a '39 Aerial Square Four, same model as the one below but in a poor state. It hadn't been registered since 1942 so I think a serviceman may have owned it and he never came home from WW2. I later traded the Squarial for my current A10.
I also had a Triumph Trailblazer which I loved.

Oh, I also had a Greeves Fleetwing once.
