G'day Ivor.
No seal in the primary side crankcase on plungers up to 1954. I'm not sure but they may have with the later 54-57 plunger models.
Cheers

Yes, I thought my '55 has a seal; didn't realise earlier models did not.

The seal came in with the BA7/10 engines.

Interesting post.
How does the pre 54 engines breath from the crankcase with the piston down stroke.
Is the primary case pressurized a little as a result ??
Thanks Keith

G'day Keith.
The breather system is the same and yes it does get pressurized a little. The only problem I've found is that when she wet sumps a fair amount of oil drains into the primary.
