A7 A10 plunger tank

Does anyone know if A7 and A10 plunger petrol tanks are all the same ?
not asking about chrome or colours just physical shape and mountings ????

Now this is one of those funny ones.
According to the home & general export parts books they had different tanks.
The A 10 had seperate badge ( 3 varieties) and knee grips while the A7 had the badge in the continious zig-zag flash and no knee grips. These tanks were different only in the placement of the mounting screws for the different finishes.

According to the catalogues US & Aust they were the same with discreet badges and knee grips.

The bikes photographed in the road tests had discreet badges and knee grips but some were different to the ones shown in the catalogues.

As to fitment, they were interchangeable

Well I dunno about comparing the differencies between the A7 & A10 but if you want to compare with my 49 Star Twin with yours you can look here...

These pictures were taken just before sending off the tank for re chroming. Should be the same as your one as I'm most certain that it is an original tank that was fitted to the bike.

The first A7 tanks had the speedo mounted in the tank. I think the later long stroke type were generally similar to the short stroke type but had the fuel taps in a different position.
I think the zigzag badge was only one year and then the recesses were pressed for the plastic badges.
The A10 seems to have been available with either the small A7 tank or the large item. I have only seen one with the small tank and it was a rigid frame bike.
They were changed in 1953 to rubber mountings which involved fitting housings for the bushes.
I may stand corrected on some of this by you more knowledgable fellows.

Thanks! I enjoy adding to the website, sadly I've run out of free space with my server British Telecom and currently looking for somewhere else to carry on. The Truncheon page I started to build for my Dad who collects Victorian painted batons and Tip Staffs and the like, I really must do some more sometime as he has a huge collection to record. He was also a Police motorcyclist during the early 1950s and had his own 1958 Shooting Star.

              

As for the Spitfire... This was at RAF Digby the oldest military flying station in the UK, but it is a reproduction aircraft and not in flying condition, never the less a stunning sight especially with a military M21 posing by its side.

I take it you mean the Land Rover, the one with the "Oh $hit!" Headlights? The Series 1 Landy had the lights closer together than on a normal car. At night you would be overtaking and see a pair of headlights coming the other way but as they were close together you would assume the oncoming vehicle was still a long way off...... *eek*

Just to add to the debate apart from the early speedo in tank type I believe the A10 plunger has two different tanks in respect of fitting and they are different and do not  interchange.
I know this as I bought one and when it arrived it was the wrong type of fitting as the later plunger had the rubber bush mounting and the earlier flash had the brackets without rubber bushes if you require the earlier one then I still have the beastie in the loft, the rubber bush mounted type seem like hens teeth as it took me some time to find one then by chance I bought one for £60 from Cheltenham auto jumble from someone who lived 5 miles from me!!
