Crankshaft shims
« on: 21.12. 2015 20:59 »
Hi again,
I want to assemble the crankshaft cush drive sprocket and I can see a 5 thou shim and a 67-1239 shim with two cut outs in a parts diagram. I don't know what they do but does any one know if all 1952 engines should have these fitted ?

Hi,
Shims are added if required to correct the sprocket to clutch alignment

Oh, thanks John, what about the one with the two cut outs/notches ?

Am I correct in assuming you got part number 67-1239 from the Draganfly catalogue? I think it may be from a later model.
My 1947-53 parts list doesn't show this shim/spacer and I can't remember having seen it on my plunger either. Did have to ad some shims to get a correct alignment
It will depend on the alignment of both your sprockets if you need it or not I guess.

Yes Morris, you are exactly right. I was just worried that it was something to do with keeping the oil in the crankcase, because I wondered why 67-1239 was that shape rather than the other plain looking shim.

G'day Ivor.
That is the "oil slinger" to try and stop oil passage into the primary. The sprocket alignment shims go outside of this.

Does anybody know how many parts there are in an A10 engine?

Thanks Muskrat, Looking at my photo, can I fit the oil slinger now that the cases are assembled ?

I think that you will find that the slinger has to be fitted before the outer main outer race.

That's what I was afraid of. I don't know what the consequences would be if I don't fit one ?

Just keep your eye on the primary oil level. After a ride pull the screw and see how much excess drains off. Won't be much.

Thanks again Muskrat, even when the shock absorber sleeve is tight against the inner main bearing race, the sprockets line up without any shims or oil slinger, maybe that's why they were left off ?
