Chain guard options for a '60 SR
« on: 28.12. 2015 21:22 »
I didnt pay much attention to it but my swing arm has at some point been denuded of any chain guard mounts, likewise the two chain guards I have are not in a great state and were both attached at the bottom shock bolt not to frame lugs, so I'm guessing they might be A65 type  *dunno*.

I do have a spare but dented late swing arm to play with if needed, that has the set of lugs.
I will need a chainguard to get the bike through rereg certification and pondering options.

I could have lugs attached to fit either the half or full chain case types (either of which I don't currently have) but that will wreck that paint
or I could continue with simply attaching to the bottom of the shock.

I suspect a painted full chaincase might look out of place against an american market model so thinking a half case probably the go, which presumably still requires the full set of mounts.

Currently a bit torn between fitting an original type guard with the full set of brackets or keeping a cleaner look.
Does anyone with a clean swing arm have a nice option they could post a picture of and ideally know what its off...

RR, the full chaincase was common on American models, I have one on the Big Valve.
You need the full set of brackets either way with original parts.

Could you please post a pic of a fitted guard, I could be tempted...
I recall draganfly were advertising them.

If I'm going to retrofit the lugs, I'd also like to hide them...

RR, A picture of each option.
Bear in mind that the half guard should have the front section of the full case bolted to the back of the inner primary case, mostly left off because of difficulties. Looks unsightly without it, though.
With your tank bolt, why not drill and tap the existing adapter?

Trev,
cheers for those, is that a rubber extension on the front of the half guard.

Of the two I think I prefer the full option, its quite tidy and hides a lot. Looks quite neat.

I guess I'd better price them out.
Tim

Not a rubber extension, RR, it's the front steel section that I mentioned.

I might need to study the parts list...

Couldn't find that referenced in the parts list I have  *sad2*

I do have a tatty front section 42-7710 and I recall somewhere the two long bolts that hold that section and the sliding plate behind the clutch...

Looking at draganflys price list the fully enclosed set up is out of the price range, but I can live with the cost of the half cover type 42-7730.
Just need to figure out what the part number is for that mysterious connecting piece that bolts to the primary chain case  *help*

My 1958 parts list says it's 42-7710.

My 1958 parts list says it's 42-7710.

I wasn't expecting that. I thought that front piece was just for the full chain guard set.
But if that's the case I do have one somewhere  *conf* just need to find it and possibly repair it.

Wouldnt have thought of fitting that with the half guard!

Sorry, I misunderstood. Thought you were wanting to fit the full, enclosed guard. You're right, that's what it is. I'll look again to see if I can find an extension for the partial guard.

It is the same piece for either guard.
