Yeah, RR.  It is difficult to get the chain around the sprocket with that enclosure but without it there is an unsightly gap between the chain guard and the inner primary case.

Wouldn't exactly call it unsightly, but although hidden behind the toolbox the gap is definitely there...
If it really bothers you, shouldn't be to difficult I think to make some kind of extension attached to the primary case to cover the gap?

I've got what is probably an a65 partial guard, and it never occurred to me to fit a front section with it! I made the gap minimal on mine and it does not show at all unless you know to look  *eek*

Is it possible to fit a chain with the front guard in place should you be unlucky enough to have one break? Even if the answer is yes it must be tricky?

On a style note a super rocket Should have all the go faster lower weight options  *smile* a chrome one now would look good.

If taht is going on an A 65 you must fit it before you put the engine into the frame.
It can not be done after the engine is in which is why most A65's don't have one fitted.
Without it the chain eats the alternator wiring on the over run.

Here are some pics, I'm not 100% happy with the look of the rear, the guard could be longer or shifted back a bit but then that would have caused problems with a gap at the front etc.

I thought the fully enclosed chain case was used with the "short" inner primary and the open type used with the "long" inner. Maybe someone knows ?

Interesting. Don't think I have ever seen a 'long inner' primary before.

Brian,
The long inner was used with the single sided rear wheel type chainguard and the short with the full width.
The short type are drilled on top for the set screw which goes into the steel front section.
The RGS seems to have had either type but if used, the short one was undrilled on top.

Now I've decided to reinstate the correct mudguard I need to retrofit the lugs so have taken the swingarm back off  *eek* what a bugger of a job https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbBx4Ql6Umo; ended up removing the primary but managed to leave the gearbox in, that allowed the swingarm to come forward enough to be turned on its side and removed.
Somewhere I know I have a pair of the long bolts that go through the sliding plate and that front chain cover but where did I put them when we moved house and packed everything up  *conf* Didnt think I'd ever need them

I've also heard the long tube inner primary was used on gold stars, which makes them rare and expensive !

Just looking at mine even though it is not "correct" I would use the "long" inner primary on the A10 with the open chain guard if I had one. It does fill the gap between the frame and primary nicely and makes it all look a lot tidier.

dont the primaries for the singles have a different profile tocater for the magneto?
I have a number of twin type inners, long and short.

Yes, the inners are different for the singles and twins. The singles do have a cut away for the magneto plus they are quite a bit different and the front where they fix to the engines. The outers are interchangeable.

If you have a "long" inner and dont care about "correctness" I would suggest putting it on and seeing what you think, it does fill the gap and make it all look a lot neater.
