Exhaust pipe to A10 Golden Flash swingarm
« on: 14.01. 2016 20:49 »
Hello
Will buy exhaust pipe to my Golden Flash A10 1954 with swing arm suspension.
Someone who has experience, who have the best fit, Wassell, Armour or other?

I bought Armour pipes for my A10 S/Arm. They didn’t fit into the head and the bends looked horrible. NOT RECOMMENDED.

+2 on that, and when I took the pipes back, I was told by the proprieter that he had been making exhaust systems for over 30 years and that he was not going to listen to what I had to say about the fit or quality of his pipes. Says it all I think!

I went the Armour route for my Super Rocket, selected stainless steel for both silencer and exhausts and was well impressed with quality for fit and appearance. Competitively priced as well.
1960 Super Rocket, owned since 1966, back on the road 2012 after being laid up for 29yrs.

I go the Armours road too. Can't complain about their service. About wrongly made pipes. Had it with Armours ones with a pipe for B31 swinging arm. No problem to them to swap it for a good one.
Had ones pipes made by Tim Wassell give him the model got the pipes with bad chroming. chrome peeled off and the worse thing he didn't return the sample. When I contacted them to ask where my samples were the answer was: "haven't them" How can he make special pipes if he hasn't the samples?

The Armours pipe and silencer for my B 40 was a good fit, and way better chrome than the Wassells on my A 10.

Way, way back I bought Armours' siamese pipes for my RGS and twin pipes for a Super Rocket.
The siamese needed the short (left) front pipe extending at the head port by about an inch. The chrome has been OK.
The twin pipes hung in the shed for over 15 years. When I recently fitted them it was necessary to extend the left hand front bracket, in order that the rear of the downpipe cleared the primary chaincase. The chrome showed corrosion due to pitting but, after a good polish on a rotary mop, looks quite good.
It's very worthwhile if you have a welder and are not afraid to use it.

*????*  is there a difference with the Left side header on the later models to clear the primary cover drain?

On my '60 model Super Rocket the left hand down pipe bends around the rear of the primary case. However, as bought it didn't clear the ally and that's why I ended up extending the front bracket. It sounds cock-eyed but it moved the whole pipe out just enough and without being 'obvious'.
