Pretty much all of the fasteners I have kicking around in the garage are of a metric persuasion (sorry). I could really do with picking up a good box full of assorted BSF and BSW stuff. Anyone know of a UK supplier who might be able to meet such a need? I’m reluctant to try and place an order for individual pieces.

I think I am still confused by the nut and bolts on our bikes (As standard)
I thought MOST external nuts and bolts were cycle thread BSCy
Anything that goes into aluminium was whitworth BSW
And some others like head bolts were BSF

Then something makes me thing again. When I get it right I will probably buy a trade pack from Nookies Nuts

I can't vouch for him but 99.9 % feedback says something, also you might prefer stainless.

a word about search engines, I got P***** off with Google, constantly going to US sites despite setting it not to, so now use AVG search. Yahoo seems to behave itself too and many more to choose from of course

I had a look at Nookys nuts and see they have set screws, threaded up to the bolt head. Same as Classic Fasteners down in OZ. Am I being weird in refusing to use these bolts? What say you?

 One thing to keep in mind is it is easy to find ' Whitworth' threads even stainless, but they are usually UNC. 'Same' bolt, but different hex.
 There's really mainly 5/16"BSC to deal with, so nuts are easy; only a few 1/4", 3/8"and  a couple of 7/16"BSC to deal with.
7/16"BSC can be done with UNF, but the hex (and maybe thread form) are different (as with all  Unified threads UNF/UNC)

Set screws don't provide the same positive location and support as full shank bolts or studs. Depending upon where they are used they may lead to more rapid wear as a result of vibration.
I try to avoid using them except in emergencies, and then replace as soon as possible.

Hi cycle butch, I know it might be expensive but I simply placed an order for 20 of each of the common sizes of nuts bolts and washers with Draganfly, I don't recommend them nowadays but they probably would not stuff up an order for nuts and bolts!

edit - it may only apply to high tensile BSW bolts, I haven't checked with them.

OK – Thanks for all of that chums. I’ve now placed orders on various. Although having been brought up on imperial I have for many years now been working mostly in metric – Italian and Japanese, and this despite running British more predominantly within the fleet. Although I still have years left in harness (dammit) I’m starting to gear up the home workshop for more serious motorcycling related engineering tasks so currently investing in fasteners and various measuring and cutting tools.

Nooky`s Nuts has also BSA A7/A10 screw sets. Not in EBAY or cataloque but they have. Cheese head and allen head. Timing cover, primary cover s/a and plunger, gearbox cover, rocker cover nuts, sump plate studs, rocker cover studs and thick flange barrel studs.
I have ordered and bought many sets in autojumbles.
