Tyre size for BSA A10 Plunger
« on: 27.01. 2016 14:27 »
Hi All
So I have had my front and back wheels rebuild (M2 19 inch rim on the front M3 19 inch rim on the back) I want to put more modern tyres on but I am unsure what size tyres required for both rims and could do with a recommendation on make
The bike once completed will be doing less that 1000 miles a year (if that)
Cheers

G'day Chillipepper.
I've got Avon AM26 (roadriders) on mine. 90/90-19 and 100/90-19. Luv'em.

+1 for Avon Roadriders, per Muskie's post. I find they feel very safe.

I've been using Dunlop K70 350x19 for rear, only getting about 7000 K out of them, so will have a look for Avon next time, and that is coming up fast.
Could be I've got a strong wrist!

I used to use Avon AM26 tyres on my modern bike (Guzzi) but had one fail so dont use them anymore. The tyre I had split down the centre, it was only a few months old and had only done a couple of thousand miles. I contacted Avon but they didnt want to know.

On my moderns I now use Bridgestone BT45's but still use Avon SM's on the old ones.

I was probably just unlucky and got a crook tyre but I was dissapointed that Avon would not reply to any of my e-mails. I did not ask for a replacement or any sort of compensation I just wanted to let them know they may have had a production isssue on a run of tyres. It would have been nice just to get an apology and an assurance they would look into it.

The bolt holding the front # plate bracket worked loose and cut a groove 1/4" wide to the full depth of tread on a brand new AM26 on my cafe. Still on and still doing 100+mph three years on. Livin on the edge *grins*.

Whatever tyres you end up using get some good quality tubes for them. Personally I use Michelin tubes, stay away from any of the cheap brands.

I like Metzlers, on both scoots, but the guys I've been using for tyres for longtime, don't deal with them(Metzler) anymore; but that aside, I'm not sure what tubes they use but they lose pressure very quickly- like I need to add air at least weekly, but in the past my previous guys used 'butyl' compound tubes, and I'm sure they held air better...??

Hi Brian do the Michelin tubes hold the pressure? most of the mob over here are complaining about loosing pressure, have to pump every week.

Peter since I have been using the Michelin tubes my bikes can sit for months and usually only lose one or two psi. I started using these tubes about four years ago and prior to that used Kenda or IRC. The Kenda's were particularly bad, they would go almost flat in about a month.
