Plunger QD hub assembly
« on: 05.02. 2016 18:16 »
Hi again,
I'm assembling the rear hub and the only diagram that I can find is Df's, it shows 65 5884 Bearing thrust washer on what I thought was the left hand side but it tells me it's for the right hand side, can any one confirm the correct side to fit it ? It also shows 67 6033 Bearing collar against the brake drum bearing, did they all have those and mine is missing ? Because I'm struggling to get the splines meeting at the full depth as it is without  a spacer.

Oppps, I forgot to say, that I have a couple of 2 thou shims between the non splined side bearing spacer and the LH thread nut to take up end float, but they are not shown on Df's diagram.

Maybe this can make it clearer?
Part 67-6033 is more like some kind of grease retaining ring. Mine has it.
65-5884 definitely is on the left side behind the wheel bearing.

Unless I'm in another 'blind spot'  *smile*, 67-6033 is for Swing Arms wheels.

I thought you must be meaning the Hub Collar that is 67-6078 (#12 on diagram).

Oops, sorry no, I was referring to 67-6072, #15 on the diagram which, I just notice, according to Draganfly is the same part as 67-6033...???
The one on my plunger has a dished shape.

Sorry Morris, I did have a partial blind spot- like 'old times' *smile*, was focusing on your pics and Iv8vors

- mainly as 'Hub Collar' 67-6078 is on the other side of the bearing

I don't remember seeing that #15 before *conf*...I'm not so sure I have a correct shim in there either (67-6072/6033), maybe just a what I thought is a improvised something about maybe 0.010" ...?

Any ideas how thick 67-6033/72 should be...??...or shape??  (D/f don't have pics of it, or show 67-6072 or 67-6032 in their description list)

Thanks again chaps, I missed the fact that 67 6033 was for SA models. But Df's  say 65 5884 is a bearing thrust washer under RH bearing although it is shown on the drive side.

Yeah V8, you're right, but their drawing shows it in the left side only, same as all the parts lists I have and what Morris posted.

It's only my opinion, but I think it doesn't matter too much if there is a right side thrust washer or not and there is none shown anyway (contrary to what I'd thought, as I'm sure at least one hub I acquired had one both sides), and the spacer(distance piece;67-6061) holds the R/H bearing where it needs to locate so it isn't loaded up either way when the axle nut is tightened , which I found to be a minor headache.

Maybe I did it wrong, but worked out ok- Anyone can butt in and correct me anytime *smile*

The '54/'54 Swingarm wheels have different bearings, spacer (distance piece/'spindle sleeve' 67-6027), no R/H thrust washer or screwed in retaining ring, and the bearing may be a bit less interference fit, so can float into place better.

This is only my observations from originally using what I've figured is a '54/'55 S/A-late '60's QD hub (67-6136), but since changed it.

Hope that's a bit helpful *beer*

Post note, with regard to;

and the spacer(distance piece;67-6061) holds the R/H bearing where it needs to locate so it isn't loaded up either way when the axle nut is tightened , which I found to be a minor headache.

Initially, I think I pushed the R/H bearing in too far so had to relieve it out a tad, so found it best to push it in some, then pull it in the last bit with the axle nut (which loads it up some), and then just a light push on the outer ring to relieve it- hoping that make sense...

Thanks for passing on your experiences, I think I will (Like you ) assemble it so that it works . The first time that I put it together, the two 4 point star bits on that 67-6027 were hitting the rivet head lumps on the inside of the hub, so I moved them clear and held them in position with a spot of brass.
Just had a thought,
The wheel came off a 70's chop with a Harley rim and 500x16 tyre and I'm wondering if the PO has put the bearing spacer in the drive side so as  the chain clears the fat tyre .

Just reading your reply again duTch, and I see what you mean, so I will measure and check to ensure the bearings are not loaded sideways.

Update. I pressed the drive side bearing against the shoulder in the hub and that allows the drive splines to mesh full depth. Then on the right hand side I found only a small shoulder in the hub that gives you enough room to get the spindle spacer installed, so the sharp edge of the  bearing spacer sits snugly against the small shoulder opposed to the rounded edge of the bearing outer race.I had to put two spacers in, to ensure the distance between the inside faces of the bearings was equal  to the length of the spindle sleeve.
