A10 ammeter

Not long being a 1960 A10 Gold Flash owner so I am on a learning curve, but noticed that the ammeter reads the wrong way round. When I switch the lights on the ammeter shows it is charging instead of showing a discharge. The battery is connected positive earth if that is correct? What could be the fault. The. bike is a non runner at the moment so cannot check if it is showing a charge rate. Any help would be a appreciated thanks.

The ammeter is wired te wrong way round.

To check whether your bike's earth is wired correctly you will need to run the dynamo, either on the bike or on the bench. The conventional earth for later A10's is positive so yours is probably wired correctly. You can, of course, 'flash' the dynamo to predetermine the earth polarity but my guess is that it is wired correctly and the ammeter is just wired incorrectly. Either way this is no big deal and I would advise you to get the bike running before worrying about the electrics.

Thanks for all the replies guys, I did swop the wires over this morning on the ammeter and hey presto it's working correctly now.
