1948 Longstroke fork springs
« on: 26.03. 2016 02:18 »
Getting the run around with 1948 Longstroke fork parts. Most stores don't give dimensions, others list correct part  numbers but have no stock, others say two very different  earlier/later items are interchangeable?!?!, etc etc...

Looks like I'm going with original earlier & shorter stanchions 67-5014 and shorter bush set 29-5346/7 to suit.

Remaining dilemma is springs. Parts book 1948 gives springs as 65-5390 (10" 21 coil 29lbs/inch) but apparently the almost inch longer, heavier(?) and more available 89-5036 (10.875" 20 coil, 34lbs??) are interchangeable. I would prefer softer rather than harder ride.

ANyone had experience of 89-5056 in original shorter stanchion fork setup?

BTW I  can get strictly correct 65-5390 springs from two different outlets but AU$48/pair from one and AU$145/pair from other (excl shipping)?!?!? Same item number.  Price difference hard to comprehend.

Wisdom appreciated.

Cannot offer any advice yet as not done this work on my machine yet.

But maybe take a look at http://shop.srmclassicbikes.com/product/fork-springs-solo-pair-progressive-ab-range-1949-1968-pair

I have been looking at their options planning upgrade in near future. SRM have always provided great service and advice to me to might be worth contacting them.

Cheers
