Hi gents,
I have a question about the sump plate studs from my 54 A10 engine. There are two different threads and I need to know if the stud at the crankcase side (1/4"x20tpi) is a BSW or a UNC thread. I need the info because I want to order the correct taps to renew the threads.

 No UNF/UNC on A10's; Should be WW, now go wash your mouth out *eek*

 ( different angles, and except 1/2" Same pitch)
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

 31-0222      STUD      BSW/BSF      1/4"-20-26x7/8"      SUMP
Now I'm not sure it's right. I thought it should be BSW/CEI  Both are 26 tpi but CEI is 60 deg and BSF is 55 deg *dunno*

Oh I think I stumbled in a bee nest downunder.
Thanks to a10gf for that input. I was not shure because of the different degrees which the threads have.
Now I will use BSW for the rest of my life.

...and we note that our venerable Whitworth is gauged in imperial dimensions, not that silly metric.  ;) *smile*

 Same topic, but slightly off-thread (no pun intended *smile*), just while I think of it to save looking for the right topic/thread (*conf*), today whilst cleaning up a gearbox outer cover, I remembered that in addition to the clutch pushrod inspection cover screws being I guess BSC * citation needed, the screw that holds the kickstart spring is also BSC * citation needed.

Now I think it was about 10 years ago the Stainless Fasteners did their compilation of BSA threads.
Any one of you who do not have a copy should hang your heads in shame, sell you BSa to some one who will really cherish and go ride the Bridgestone 100 you deserve.
