Royal Air Mail???????????
« on: 15.04. 2016 02:18 »
Well, I think the Brits have achieved a new low in shipping. I ordered some manuals from Grove Cycle, who shipped them by Royal Airmail on 3/30. Still haven't received them! I thought the US postal service was slow, but this is crazy. Are they still flying a Sopwith Camel??? Packages from China get here much more quickly.

Just received, yesterday, my dating certificate from BSAOCUK posted 4/4. That's nine days. Not bad, I think. The real good news is that my barn find '57 A7 frame and engine match. I think I may have gotten one of the last real good deals for a near complete original bike.

I find UPS pretty much screw me over whenever they are involved. To the extent that I'll now avoid any supplier where I can see they use them.

Good point Bill. Quite a few times I've ordered parts from UK/USA only to see Chinese/Hong Kong postage marks. Saves them carrying stock.
Cheers

Until recently Australia Post have been just brilliant, but that's all over now. Like so many other things the ultra-capitalists have got their claws into, now we're going to get a wonderful new World of subcontracting efficiency - outsourcing both the job and the responsibility, and we'll have bombay back-up into the bargain.
(Come on, keep telling me how things are SO much better nowadays!!!)

Not Bl---y likely , this is where it started and still being pursued with a passion, seems like half the MPs have got shares in the privatised bits so out go democracy.

but lets keep politics off here , it's too damn depressing  (he says having just had a go)

Yes Jools, and B-Bil, I agree and don't get me started either.

Having said that, I've had to buy some things online that are only available from China, and they come with free or very cheap postage (which is a complete con-job in itself and takes time), but the best I've had was a package from Lightning-Spares four years ago, that was shipped (I think DHL) on a Friday, and arrived here on my door on the following Monday; three friggin' days!!! half way across the world tracked- that's legendary.
I find stuff from the US is ridiculously expensive, and also from NZ  *rant*

Sorry Wozza, but I did bait you there, but I was trying to envisage someone with a computer/TV screen on the handlebars, 'stabbing' it with a screwdriver to check for funny sounds as they feel their way through the darkness, maybe with a super hi-tech IR reverse-reverse cam setup *smile*...(it may even work better)

Wozza,
That's an impressive response time!
I have had good results from David Silver Spares: ordered a part that Honda didn't have Sunday night; arrived in country Western Australia the following Friday morning.

Other very prompt respondents and shippers are Tracy Tools, Lyford Classics, and Hitchcocks; sometimes receive from them in a week.
