Hi there,

I wonder if someone would be kind enough to explain to me the difference between a "plain", "roller" and "ball race" bearing. I read a lot about these things, but having never taken an engine apart, I have no idea what the different types are and their application.

Thanks all.

Now when I read (in this month's CBG) "Four bearings support the crankshaft, with the two centre ones being plain bearings. A ball race looked after the drive side, with a roller bearing on the timing side." I know what it means!
