A10 new restoration, Engine

I hadnt heard from the m/shop for a while so I phoned them today ,seems the welding repair aint going good ,they attempted to fix it but it cracked on cooldown .

They have taken advice and are attempting it again with some other kind of welding rod.
Not looking good so now putting an iron head on it to get it running may be my next step .
I saw one on ebay [ 361564639009 ] that looks like its not perfect but should work at least for this summer.

Finally got the time today to put some work in on my project.
got the old pistons off and installed the good ones with the large flange barrels [forgot the studs were bigger but someone came to my rescue].
 The iron head I got this week looks real good so im gonna clean it up and thats next to install.

Im wondering if the alloy head bolts are gonna work and if theres anything different on the rocker box ,but I guess I will find out soon.

I GOT SOME NEW [IRON HEAD] HEAD BOLTS ON THE WAY ....HOPE I CAN FIND A SET OF ROCKER BOX STUDS TOO .

I stock them, give me a ring on Monday (Priory Magnetos).

The long, top bolts are the same, the ones that hang down are shorter for iron head models.

After speaking to you to day I know you are indeed the man for A10 parts .
You are a weath of information and seem to have every part in stock [and I asked for odd stuff today]

Im sure others know but in case some dont .....Priory magnetos  is THE  place for the correct part and knowlegable advice on A10,s

I can now continue on getting this bike together.

I got the head shot blasted , seats recut and valves lapped in and reassembled today .

Time permitting I may get it all back together this next weekend

Well im stuck again.
Time to have a beer and then watch the Baku g/p and maybe have another go this afternoon.

Got the head on, had to really fight to get the ex. pipes on but done that .

Im not looking forward to putting the rocker box on but maybe I will this afternoon.

Now it would seem the carb drip tray fouls the advance cable on the mag, the iron heads intake is not in the same place as the alloy one,I can see some ones made a cut out  on it but I think Im gonna have to make it bigger

Well getting the pushrods in the rockers seems impossible. after 5 attempts Im giving up for today .

If you struggle to much with that rocker box I am only just down the road I will pop down and do it for you

Thats a B31 frame yes? The bracket for the head steady is different to an A10/A7 frame

Just a tip (in case you dont know I dont know if you have had an A10 to bits before) Make sure you turn the engine over until the two exhaust pushrods are level in height. One valve is always going to be open but make sure its an inlet valve not an exhaust valve. If you dont you might well be fitting that rocker box for a week or so :)

Yes Bikerboy its a 1958 b31 frame.

I normally only work on it every other Sunday for a few hours but Im on holiday from Wednesday so will be able to work on her much more.Im going full out to get her ready for the Uxbridge auto show ,we have a work club stand and I will show this and my matchless this year,that will make a small section of 8 bikes so far ,I have been allocated 3 car spots for bikes and would love to fill my space.Your welcome for a free ticket to show a bike with me if your close.

As a club we have a 30 car stand, marquees bbqs the works.

Hi polly, there is 2 types of carb drip tray, one for auto advance and an offset one for manual advance maggy. I have been looking for the manual advance one for a few weeks now but no luck, there were some s/steel repro ones a while ago, but I cant find any now.
If anyone knows of any give us a shout.
