Difficult starting
« on: 08.06. 2016 20:46 »
1959 g/flash - starts easily from cold and runs perfect.Try to start again after say 20mins and it's very difficult but eventually will burst into life , but only then when throttle is open wide.Mag has been re-conditioned,timing correct, carb settings correct and no air leaks - what's going on ?Problem has existed for 2 years - plugs do seem a bit sooty

G'day Jim.
Sounds rich to me. Re-check the float height. Try a hotter plug.
But as most carb problems are electrical and vise versa it could be the condenser.
Cheers

Forgetting to replace the condenser when rewinding the magneto sounds unlikely.

If the plugs are getting sooty, I think everything in the carb is not correct.

Always suspect a worn needle jet.

Hi,
Make sure the plugs and caps are non resistor types
There are /were a lot of poor quality condensers being fitted by mag reconditioners  *sad2*
These usually fail totally though  *????*

4 turns out is way outside the adjustment range *eek*
Presuming a monobloc carb? is the pilot jet tightened fully home before the cap is threaded on ??
