Am I missing 42-4792?
« on: 26.06. 2016 20:36 »
Hello!

Studying the parts catalogue (as one do from time to time), I happened to notice bolt 64-6054 and spacer 42-4792, with associated nut and washers. Should there be a distance between frame and inner primary chaincase taken care of by said spacer? It's a bit difficult to see where this bolt goes in the drawing. I have just bolted mine up against the frame lug.

Hi Otto,
The spacer is required on most bikes
The thickness required varies from bike to bike, a stack of washers will work just fine
Bolting directly to the frame can distort the cases and cause clearance problems within the cases,

Have a read of the topic I posted that includes comments on this

Once I had established how many washers were needed (without the bolt in place), I found that keeping the stack together while trying to insert the bolt was a pain. My answer to this was to glue the stack together with some cyanoacrylate (Super Glue).

I prefer 5 minute Araldite  *smile*. Why not make one the right thickness?

The stack only has to stay together long enough to slide it in place and get the bolt through. Regarding making a spacer to fit, uhhh, a common ailment known as lackolathe-itis.

Yes, theres a lug on the inner chaincase which will be on the iside  inside of a frame member ,bolt goes through and firms up the case .being ally it's very easy to distort the he case ,that is what Richard and John mentioned ,the spacer /washers enable you to fit it tightly but inline to suit your bike .

"lackolathe-itis." reminds me of when I took the SR to Switzerland a couple of years ago
When I filled up with the local fuel one petrol tap cork immedietly leaked badly
We retreated back to the chalet and scoured for a repair
eventually I found a proper bottle cork, an electric drill and bits and some sandpaper
I drilled a hole through the cork and mounted it onto a screw and nut, then stuck the end of the screw in the drill chuck, and "turned" to size using the sandpaper
Cut to length and enough for a spare, the one I fitted has been good since *smile*
