penrite oil
« on: 03.08. 2016 13:25 »
Just wondered if anyone had used the 25/70 oil by penrite, it is suppose to be the same as 40 monograde but has higher zinc phospher levels in like the old fashioned oils used before the introduction of catalistic converters, I have read a bout it and the old style engines with flat tappets etc need the extra zinc as an anti wear protection.  Just wondered if anyone had used the stuff and what they thought of it.

Haven't see it, I use Pen 30 = I think ~20/50.  25/70 sounds heavy, but depends on what part of the world you're in, if it's suitable ??

I've just discovered this. Seems just what is required, and mine even came in a REAL tin can! A$50 5 litres.

I've been using it for the last 5k miles since first run after restore. I did it on Orabanda's recommendation.

I'm using the same, I put it in after a rebuild and the engine builder reckons it is a good choice

Ok had another brainfart, actually HPR30 20W60, Full Zinc it says 1600PPM, only been using it since early '90's, in everything (except the diesel van, it takes the equivalent)

looks good, might give it a try, the best oil i ever found was made by Filtrate and it was 20 / 50 plus and i used it for everything, it had graphite in it, but filtrate is no more, been gone a long time. if anyone knows of something similar i would be interested to give it a try.
