1961 Super Rocket, big end nuts torque
« on: 13.08. 2016 08:57 »
Hi
Starting rebuild of my reconditioned engine. The manual states the big end nuts to be torqued to 22 lb.ft
Isnt this too much for 5/16 bolts ?

Have you got standard rods and bolts?

Edit on this link there is good info. 22 ft lb might be right depending on what you have.

Yes, standard rods & bolts. Unable to source new HT bolts here hence using old ones

Anji,

I understand the U.S.A. and one or two other countries have done trade with India in the past  *conf* so I can't understand not being able to get ARP (or other) bolts brought in by the next schooner.

On another topic (with less joking), are you participating in the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride on September 25th? The cause is to raise money for prostate cancer research.  I see there will be a ride in Pune. https://www.gentlemansride.com/sponsor/country/india?ride_id=231. Here's the video from last year's Pune ride: https://youtu.be/3AyDrJBjoZg

Hi Richard
any amount & types of nuts & bolts in metric sizes available here, but, sadly no Imperial sizes. Have to get myself a set of Taps & Dies.
Thanks for the info on DGR scheduled for Sept. Never knew about this or DGR till getting the link from you.. Will follow up & see where it leads.
Any projects in hand currently? Finishing the Super Rocket & then planning to start on the 1935 Velocette MSS 500.
Regards
Anji
