Bent frame
« on: 21.08. 2016 07:25 »
Hi all,
I need to get my A10 frame checked for straightness, can anybody recommend a bike shop with a jig near me in Southampton U.k.
Please help.

Nick Simpson (K&S) has a jig for the A and B Group frames and does magic to damaged frames.

He's in Porlock in Somerset.

Paul.

PS; should also say he comes highly recommended.

Thanks for the info beesa71.
I've had the A10 for about 20 years, it had been cut just under the head stock and a bracket welded on.
It was like that when I brought the bike, I think someone must have tried to straighten the frame before.
(See photo)
I don't know if it has had a knock or maybe it had a sidecar, it seemed to ride ok but I want to get it checked before I get the frame painted.
Thanks again

sometimes they were cut there and a bit taken out to alter the steering angle so it turned quicker I believe, my last A10 had been worked on there (about 2 inches cut out and replaced with a (shorter?) solid rod, probably to make welding easier, don't know) but it does seem to turn better than my Flash, could be imagination, could be the Flash doesn't turn as it should.
To be safe I had our local shop redo the welding, left it the same length as was but sleep better at night
All the best - Bill
1961 Flash - stock, reliable, steady, fantastic for shopping
1959 Rocket Gold Flash - blinged and tarted up  would have seizure if taken to  Tesco

Thanks for that BSA-Bill,
You could well be right, and I think to have it welded again would be very safety wise too.
Good call, cheers

that weld is awful but dave degans recommends a weld across the downtubes for racing a10s to strengthen the frame for racing. so not uncommon.

It's a very bad welding job, need to get it on a jig and have it done proper I think.
Cheers
