Allow me to try Dutch-  As anyone helicoiled  a fork leg left handed thread  (8" single sided brake ) Padsta had trouble getting his old front wheel spindle to tighten so got a new one and was thinking about belt helicoiling the leg ?
If I'm right I'd be inclined to try the spindle without the wheel to see how it performs b4 thinking of helicoiling

...but, either, without tightening or with some form of spacer in place (I presume Bob means).

I haven't seen a helicoil for this I have always repaired the old treads.  I get a old spindle and make two cuts in the end in a x pattern and use it to recut the threads.  Jeff

HI All,
As I posted previously to Paddy,
An old or long established bicycle shop will have a left hand tap to suit,
They were use to reclaim threads on bicycle pedal cranks,
I don't think you will find a LH helecoil to suit

Works for me

hi i have a very early set of single side-ed forks [b31]and bsa also cut a 5/16 thread for a bolt at the fork bottom, horizontal to the large thread. you would need to have the forks sitting perfectly to drill through the middle  bottom of the fork threaded part and the spindle. the spindle would be located by a 5/16 bolt acting as a cotter in the spindle thread.

Ha ha my way of explaining is enough to give anyone dixlexia!
Thanks all for replies. I'm travelling in the highlands in Scotland right now, (van not bike) so will get stuck in when I'm home again.
Chatterlea.. I will look into your suggestion to re cut the thread, but not sure really how much it's damaged. Just wish the spindle was long enough to just chuck a nut on the end.
Cheers
Paddy (paddo) lol.
