Ariel hub sprocket size
« on: 10.09. 2016 00:28 »
Hi all, I can't find it in searches (Probably dumb). What is the correct size final drive chain for the Ariel hub sprocket?
Lyford Classic has it at 5/8 x 1/4, draganfly has it at 5/8 x 3/8.
I wish to start with new sprockets, as both gearbox and rear wheel ones are worn on the rebuild.
Can any Ariel hubbers help?
Cheers from Gav.

It's 3/8 wide as standard I reckon, I've heard one can convert to a 1/4 wide O ring chain though. I think that's the same as all the other A10 years.

I guess your (new) chain size will be determined by what sprockets you can get, when the time comes for replacing mine I would not be surprised if the best option would be to weld a new sprocket ring onto the old sprocket.

G'day Gav.
5/8 x 3/8 = 530 chain. The rear sprockets are getting thin on the ground. I did sort of what Kiwi suggested, I turned off the sprocket and machines an alloy blank to fit then scotch keyed it together.

G'day Gav.
Be careful with the part # you order. The "Ariel" hub sprocket is different to the 58 on full width iron hub. The one you want is 42-6069. Priorymagnetos only have the 58 on type listed.

Burton Bike bits list that sprocket 42-6069 also Draganfly but they are out of stock at the moment I would go for Burton bike bits rather than order from India.

Musky, was the photo you added from MAP cycles the one I should be getting? Have gone for the concealed bearing, as in that photo, which was advertised with the incorrect part no. The seller had a vernier in a couple of the photos, and they matched the sprocket I had. Hope its correct! Thanks forn your replies.Gav.

G'day Gav.
Sorry for the confusion. The picture was from British Bike bits. The link to Map was because it was the cheapest I found in a quick 10 minute search.
