camshaft end float

Indirectly responding to Greybeards post and the DGR, I'm trying to get my A10 ready. My question about camshaft end float could scupper that plan... The Haynes manual says there should be almost no end play.. Should this be before the external drive gear is fitted or not?  Is that stupid question?

It's been years since I last fitted one however have you placed the cog on the camshaft and tightened it ,once on  you should be able to see if it eliminates most of the play or not ,failing this await the arrival of our peers from oz or john from Ireland, best of luck ,Bob

Thanks Bob, thats how i thought it would be..Once the drive gear is on, it centres the camshaft. I had no concerns until i read the Haynes manual...I should read this forum instead!

just discovered a bigger problem...the spare set of barrels that I've re sleeved have non standard threads on the head. It may have been something I did 20 years ago...but either way my head bolts won't fit...having a think about which way to go now..
The original barrels had a bit of damage around the skirt. the sleeve will extend beyond the damage but it may be too thin....I may be riding the Triumph after all for the DGR....

Yes endfloat checked with the gear in place

What threads are now in the cylinder? maybe we can conjure up a fix??

The Breather cork takes all the play up.

I'll check out the threads today. I believe the challenge will be finding bolts with a small enough head to fit in the recesses. Hex bolts may work.

I found some bolts with the correct thread with Allan key heads, so I think I'm over my initial scare...now to find the time before Sunday!
