Needle jet spec Amal 389
« on: 27.10. 2016 15:35 »
Getting the bike (RGS) ready for the winter lay up, and I have removed the carb and stripped it down to give it a good clean up (ultrasonic bath and a good blow out with the airline). I suspect that the needle jet in all probability needs replacing. The reason I say this is because my plugs are a bit sooty no matter how much I play with the carb. I have had a quick scan through the Amal site and it came to my attention that there are two different 106 needle jets. One is cross drilled, and the other is not. Before I order, can anyone tell me what the difference is, and more to the point which one is correct for the RGS? Cross drilled or not cross drilled? Also Should I replace the actual needle too?

Hi,
The cross drilled needle jet is the correct one, I think the non drilled is 2 stroke???
Yes buy a new needle to go with it
Maybe replace the float needle while you are ordering bits

John, thanks for the explanation, and I will act on your advice an order a new float needle too.
