A65 lightning
« on: 28.10. 2016 16:20 »
Hello all
I've just got this A65 running, not very well I might add, now, its had a rebore and new pistons, I've lashed out on £250 worth of Boyer Brandsden electronic ignition and I'm why , after running, I'm sure it back fired then momentarily started running backwards, again I tried starting it and it kick back and I'm pretty sure it was trying to run backwards, any clues out there with you brainy lot? I know that the concentric carb on it is a load of crap and I need to replace it with a new one but I thought it should run and start better even with the old carb.

Thanks in advance TTJohn

Running backwards is usually caused by overadvanced ignition. A four stroke won't run backwards for long, just momentarily after it has spat back and the pistons 'bounce' against the combustion. You can get a two-stroke to run backwards properly; my mate did it on a Bultaco moto cross bike back in the seventies. Going back to the Boyer, you've probably misunderstood the instructions somewhere along the way!

G'day TT.
The timing plate has two holes (one for clockwise and one for anticlockwise) that you see the magnet under. You may have timed it to the wrong hole.
