Main shaft nut tension
« on: 10.11. 2016 20:10 »
I have some end float in my gearbox (52 plunger A10) main shaft. How much is acceptable and is there a recommended tension for the nut.. Being the nut located inside the gearbox outer case. Thanks

Started with a basket case, now got 3 BSAs and a shed full of bits.....mmmm feel another BSA coming on...whoops two more followed me home...

Hi Oval
The bearing on the RHS of the gearbox should hold the mainshaft in position = zero endfloat
The nut on the kickstart ratchet should lock it all together
Do not over tighten the nut as it will distort the ratchet bush and jam it !!
a guess would be 20ft/lbs
