As mentioned the plunger and swing arm clutches are different: And sadly yes the early swing arm clutch also fitted to B series plunger bikes is ideally suited to a washing machine  *whistle*. However if most of it is not too worn *wink2* , then they can provide many years of trouble free service.
The main issue with the six spring model is the budget ball bearing races that unlike the plunger and later 4 spring both ran on rollers *good3* . More modern clutch like the BNR have proper bearings, better again  *respect*.
Once the bearings are sloppy the plates don't lift nicely and can slip and drag (yes do both  *sad2*) if not well set up. - This isnt helped by the narrow point of lift with the rod in the clutch centre. A suzuki gs550 clutch top hat styled bearing releases nicer but is a mod.

I ran this type of clutch stock standard for around 30 years on my ZB33 and it does pay to select neutral approaching intersections involving waiting, but I did used to commute on that bike in city traffic and did a lot of two up touring.

Be patient putting it back together, for the double nuts (if not using nylocks -I didnt bother) they must be thin walled.
A good rider periodically checks all nuts and bolts with a spanner to see that they are tight - Instruction Manual for BSA B series, p46, para 2.

The budget ball bearing races can be improved with this modest upgrade from Draganfly.

That looks like a good idea, compared with the original separate races.

Hi Scotty and thanks for the recommendation. I can't find that bearing on the Draganfly site. Any chance of a link or part number please?

Go to Draganfly Home page click on BSA Shop info, click on Shop,
click on A7 A10 etc, click on clutch, click on six spring clutch,
click on item 19 part No 65-3911 then you should see the modified bearing including the price.

Same here, I'm not sure if this bearing design is a deliberate mod by Draganfly or simply a way around non availability of the original style bearing, either way it works ok, and it's what you get if you order the standard bearing from them anyway (or was several years ago), I did notice what appeared to be the ally race wearing away after relative few miles though, there was a fine grey "paste" in the bearing area on inspection, but I've done over 5000 miles on the bearing now with no probs, albeit on NZ roads so not much traffic work  *smile*

I seem to remember a clever forum member here modified his 6 spring pressure plate to incorporate a needle roller bearing  *????*

That one looks a little short, Kiwi.
Probably from a clutch with fewer plates.

A b31 owner would probably be interested in your clutch centre kiwipom.
