Annoying the neighbours
« on: 16.12. 2016 07:31 »
Everyone has to put up with the  hobbies that are taken up by our neighbours and the sounds (messing around with the 'bikes), smells (on brew day)-both guilty as charged.
But when Gerry leaned over the fence yesterday and called out I was amazed by his comment.
Apparently they were recording  the last episode of a favourite english telly series when I started up the Beezer and their screen went wonky. Surprisingly my tiny maggie could cause enough interference about 12 metres away from their aerial to ruin their viewing.
We had a good laugh and I said that I would check the TV guide before  I did any work in the future.

Appears this is an intercontinental happening ,I went to start one of the bikes last Saturday but all I got was a monumental backfire ,sounded worse because of being in an enclosed drive . Next door neighbour thanked me half an hour later for saving him a load of money ......he reckoned his wife wouldn't need a laxative for 6 mths at least  *doh* *smile*

"...their aerial"? I hope they paused their Betamax long enough to avoid recording the video noise.

In the good old days of 405 lines black and white TV, my grandparents' set used to react to cars approaching their small farm from quarter of a mile away.

It was how they knew visitors were coming.

"...their aerial"?
I presume that implies that you would expect everyone to have cable. In the UK cable is by no means universal. Large conurbations probably have cable but many people find it too expensive so stick to an aerial and receive free digital transmissions.

Didn't mean to offend anybody. There's also dish. Cable is expensive but I'm hooked. I'm sure it's cheaper than heroin. Anyway, is there not a basic cable service that is more affordable? How do you otherwise watch the Café Racer show or Biker Buildoff?
