Outer Primary Chain cover

Hi, I am rebuilding a 53 Goldenflash with a small journal engine.

Does anybody know if the outer primary chain covers come in different sizes.  The one I have was not fitted to the engine and came in a box with the other parts of the engine, however,  I am now reassembling the engine I cannot get the cover to fit over the clutch casing without pressing against it.

The clutch does not snag inside the cover and works fine.

The casing has a ser no of 67-170 p1 on it.

 G'day maaate- haven't heard from you in a while, but I don't live here so no surprise

 As far as I know, ther's only one type of cover for the Plunger models, and the part # in the book is 67-1701, and the part# as I'm led to believe is 1# off the casting #, so at least it sounds close ..

 The trouble you have could be due to the hollow 'dowell pegs' in front and rear screw holes being out of shape and not going in the corresponding inner-case holes ?? (assuming they are there)...if not that, and the clutch is installed, then the clutch may be sitting further out that it should be..I know it's a bitch to have to pull apart and check, but but did you do progressive dry run assembly of the cover and all other bits before adding in the clutch??

Hi gents,

yes disappeared off the radar for a few years due to, well life going round really, homes cars bikes etc etc.

Have  stripped all the clutch back off yesterday then got distracted, I will look further  this morning and let you know what I find.

Just glad the casings are the same I can now tie it down to either a blonde moment by me or a part fault.

 aaah yeah, I do have the occasional relapsation

 b.m.i.s- maybe goes without saying to also dummy place the clutch without tightning mainshaft nut or adding springs- but you'll have to do the Cush nut up fully (without spring to start ) These two bits are all that I can see would impede the cover (other than the dowells)

No. It'll be to big as you mentioned.
If you have an outlook-hotmail account you can upload it to your "public" files and post the link on the forum. I think G-Mail offers something similar to.
If not, there's Photobucket or the likes
