Ammeter Faulty

Thanks again for the replies, Black sheep I cleaned in dynamo area with electrical cleaner, brushes seemed free, should they stand up above the holder mine were just level with housing ?

Bridged terminals together after removing ammeter which more or less fell apart on removal, insulated the joint and I have since done aprox 60ml with lights both on and off and battery staying charged so far. Found no other dodgy connections up to press either in headlight or under seat and regulator area.
So I am hoping ammeter was at fault and will now order another along with the rubber elbow connector between carb and airfilter box as that was noticed to be badly perished when cleaning filter .
Next question is ....the old one is black faced with no illumination on it , is that the standard one for 55 plunger GF A10 or would it have had a white face ?

I'm not at home to go and look but I'm pretty sure mine has a black face.

 ok Trev- not disputing that, but my point was to ensure an 8A one, as any more (than 10A) is fruitless

Dave I got a 'Lucas' 36084 claiming to be made in the UK - even said 'trust lucas' on the box  .
lasted about 2 months before the needle fell off the centre pivot. so country of origin is hardly a guarantee
(tho the 'WW19021' also on the box could have be been a clue)

well you lot aren't dummies so no i can't. but maybe me being the dummy the WW looks a lot like the part number of a certain parts supplier with a high unhappyness rating. quick pic of the nice green box attached

I am guessing they have now got a colour printing machine in India as well then  thats one place I wont get one from,  Thanks Mike
