Stiff Fuel Tap
« on: 06.08. 2017 14:42 »
Sometimes in life you don't want a stiff one, and this is one of those times.

I have a very stiff fuel main fuel tap (reserve is fine). I've given it the WD40 treatment and that hasn't made much difference, which means I've now exceeded my engineering expertise.

It's a circular style tap which you pull out for ON and then turn to lock in place, perhaps it's just liable to be very stiff, and that's ok, however I wanted to check whether any of you chaps have the same issue with stiffies?

Welcome your thoughts, extra marks will be given for the highest number of double-entendre's in a reply.

Thanks!

Your tapper has a cylindrical cork which slides inside the tube. Some corks are bigger than others and a tighter fit in the tube. A tighter fit is generally better in terms of plugging the hole to satisfaction.

I've got a stiff one  *dribble* , I use it as my reserve tap, in that way I can't use the reserve by accident. (left side)

Roy - the left hand side one is the one I've been using. Perhaps I'll just switch to the other!

Being right handed I have always automatically used the right tap for normal running, don't suppose it matters which one you use for reserve unless one is a proper reserve with the tube.
Mine are both the same (no tube).

The tank shape underneath is not uniform, the left side is formed to allow a reserve on that side, so best to use right for normal running.

Thanks for that Julian.
The choice of two and I got it right for once.

Thanks Julian - just to be clear, the reserve tap is on the left side when I'm sitting on it, or looking at it?

Thanks,

Sam.
