Nigel,
In order to open myself up to ridicule (one member suggested, due to my "misguided ideas") I will offer that an engine running hot due to fuel mixture or other combustion issues shoud not seize. That's why there is clearance between pistons and bores. (Aluminum expanding faster and more than iron when heat is applied.)
Further, referring to my previous post, I will modify that to say "it seems" there is no catastrophic damage.
