Introduction and Oil related question
« on: 14.06. 2009 20:48 »
Hello all, This week I have taken delivery of my first big 4-stroke BSA (I have recently completed the restoration of my 1959 D3 Bantam which originally belonged to my Great-Grandmother)! My new bike is a 1960 A7SS which is extremely beautiful, but in need of a bit of TLC to make it work. I am delighted at having found this forum as I am sure that it will be of great benefit and I am also perfectly happy to assist members myself in any way that I can.

My new bike has been standing for a few years, so obviously I want to replace the oil and such-like before I try and start it. I relaise that by asking the following question I am probably going to get a thousand different answers and potentially am opening up a veritable can of worms, but here goes anyway...

"What is the best Engine Oil to use in my A7?"

I would envisage that I will cover something in the region of 5000 miles a year and will use the bike for commuting too and from work. Because of where I live, I will not really ever be doing any journeys of less than five miles. Ideally, I could do with something that can be bought at Halfords as up here in rural Cumbria there are not really any specialist oil supplers... Alternatively, does anyone have contact details for a good online supplier of suitable oil?

MAny thanks in anticipation.

welcome to the forum mate i use silkoline classic 40s monograde
also you can use 50s but srm recomend 40s they rebuild a lot
ove classic engines if its been standing for a long time you might
have to drain the crankcase its a plate under the engine
can you post some pics on the forum we all love pics
mine is a super rocket 650 and i love it had it for 8 years now
