1955 A7 Oil quantity/change
« on: 19.08. 2017 18:24 »
Hello all, I've had a great ride today out to see friends on the north Cornish coast, but...isn't there always a but!
I have wet oil on the inside of the exhaust pipe, the bike doesn't smoke. I've just checked the plugs & they were a bit sooty but nothing scary. Before a ride I put my index finger into the oil tank, it usually just touches oil, I then put a small drop in. Ok my question is am I overfilling the tank (I judge it to be roughly two thirds full when cold). I've not done an oil change since I've had the bike (10 months light riding) & I'd like to get the right quantity in the tank. Simple steps for oil change & quantity would be gratefully received.

G'day Jowan.
When you say "inside" do you mean inside where the exhaust gas flows or on the outside under the motor?

G'day Jowan.
My first guess would be exhaust guide worn or loose.
Oil tank  should be about 3/4 full. If it wet sumped and you top the tank up, the oil in the sump will soon overfill the tank. That will give you oil on the outside of the pipe.
Cheers

Cheers, I'll drain oil when warm & re-fill to three quarters & go from there. Thanks again.
