I had the pleasure of seeing Big Daddy flatten the Canadian champion John Quinn at Wembley Stadium in about 60 Secs. It was not fixed HONEST June 1979.

Anyway tried thinners today, cleaned some crap away; a slow process. A chap at the Sunday pub today said to try Mr. Muscle oven cleaner ??? Chinese Burn ouch !! LOL.

Oven cleaner will likely be Caustic Soda which must not come into contact with aluminium, (or aluminum).

If Big Daddy can beat the Canadian Mighty John Quinn at Wembley 1979, my money is on Greybeard Shirley.  *smile*

 Yes,

stay away from oven cleaners or things like Simple Green. They are questionable for very short periods on aluminum, and anywhere that is not rinsed off completely clean will turn a very dark grey inside a couple of hours.

Plus, they don clean any better than thinner.

GB,

I looked it up and Wikipedia says they are the same thing.

Over here we have stuff that barely smells at all. Most of my buddies use it in their parts washers because the stink doesn't drive you out of the shop.

My wife had an uncle who managed to fatally torch himself whilst wall papering by candle light during a power cut after a heavy session on meths.

That’s not the only example of insanity/peculiarities on that side of the family either - not something you consider when you are first dating.

Used to use Trike as a vapour curtain in a large paint dip tank, which had rim extraction.  Lethal stuff - apparently if a smoker draws the vapour through a lit cigarette, it turns to Phosgene, ie Mustard Gas as per WW1, with dire results.
Urban myth?  Don't know, and didn't want to find out, but every annual shut down we drained the tank to clear paint pigment which had settled round the sparge pipes and a team of specialist cleaners would enter the tank using breathing gear to dig it out.
Sh*t Job!

That is no urban myth, unfortunately its absolutely true. Trich is evil stuff, another consequence of inhaling the vapour is cirrhosis of the liver. Not much wonder that it was banned.
