Car Colour Substitutes for 59A7SS Green?
« on: 09.01. 2018 17:20 »
Anyone know of car colour substitutes for BSA A7SS Green? It's not a candy, is it a metallic or?

Is there a Humbrol or other colour for the pinstriping anyone knows?

Going to be a devil marking up  this on a full chrome replica tank. One presumes the factory only chromed the side panels or more probably roughed the to be painted bit..or acid etched it?

Any Pointer welcome, thanks folks

Don't know of a car paint match.
RS motorcycle paints - WB 6003 - polychromatic Light green is a metalic paint.  The pin stripe is dark green 2mm thick.

I built a 1955 Shooting Star and used Connaught Green (Rover Cars Colour) for the dark green parts and Citroen Vert-argent or silver/green as it is often referred to in the UK, for the tank and mudguards etc. I was delighted with the way the bike turned out and nobody ever suggested the colours weren't right; in fact I was often asked what colours I'd used.

Just finishing prepping my tank for paint.

Painter said scuff the chrome with 320 or close to that. Scuff until it's all dull.

I asked about acids, and he gave me about 10 reasons to never use it. But the biggest reason of all was because you cannot be sure it's all removed and it will affect the paint later.

My chap used etching primer on the chromed areas of the tank that he painted. He may have also roughed the surface. Paint, (2 pack) is still great 5 years later.

When I was having my tank stripped for chroming and new paint we uncovered a patch of original A7 polychromatic green underneath. I had my selected spray guy take a match before the tank was stripped – although I was going with a non-standard maroon on the respray (I wanted it the same as when I bought the bike). The guy does really first class work if you want to go professional and are conveniently placed or don’t mind the postage.
