Colour of Timing Case Logo
« on: 14.01. 2018 10:52 »
Hopefully a short topic -  I have searched the Forum and elsewhere to no avail. I am contemplating painting the Three-Rifles indented logo on the timing case red on my 1961 Golden Flash. That would look great, but I have been unable to find any reference to this.
It seems to me after checking original advertisements that some of the early A7's may have been painted red, but later models were either unpainted or painted black.
Does anyone have any information on this.? Was there any factory information available.?
Cheers
Colin

I purchased my 1961 A7ss new and there was no red paint on it anywhere, so it was either black or not painted at all.
I think it was not painted.

Great pic, dressed as a pilot, see you had already modified a few things, the Ace bars, alright until you dropped it and the top of the tank acted as the steering stop.
The fork gaters and did you change the silencers to Dunstalls (Goldy type)?

Hey Col- I did my '52/'56 in red with a nikko pen, but the wind blew it off  *whistle*...did look good, so I reckon you should 'cos you know you want to... *smile* can always blow it off if you need to- just a 'quick' blockkie

I have a feeling my '58 R-Rocket had it like that but was a while ago

I purchased a NOS timing cover for my Super Flash project (w/tach drive provision) and the stacked rifles were in red.
Also found a NOS T/cover for the RGS.  It too was red.

I was given that leather jacket by a man who served on a Lancaster.
Don't forget, it was only fifteen years after the war.
The handlebars were just turned over, always did that to my bikes, (see pic of my spitfire below.)
I cut the fork shrouds off and fitted the gaters.
The silencers were the standard A7 ones.

I did mine in red because I'd seen many others that were red and, besides, it was nearly the same as my bike. Since there is no standard for originality in this, I can't see rivet counters getting too upset if the rifles are painted to match your bike color, whatever it may be.

Hi Roy C,
That is a magnificent photo. You do look "The Business". I had a 1957 worn-out A7 standard *sad2*. Photos attached. My older sister was 19 in this shot. She is 69 next month. The third photo is me doing my Marlon Brando Impersonation *red*.
Thanks all for the feedback.
It seems that there is no defined colour for the logo, so I will just do it in red.
Cheers
Colin
