Barrel cleaning.

My barrels are hardly worn and they came up really nice when I honed them. The fins are intact but quite weathered with age. They have been in a hot parts washer for a few days but there is still a fair amount of crud-surface rust between the fins. I have thrown a lot of money at the sand blasters of late, so is there another way of cleaning between the fins so I can spray the barrels. Thank you.

you can buy very flexible rat tail files, can't recall where I got mine but it's about 1/8th or so in diameter and very easy to bend, (not springy) just like it's made of soft wire, more of a rasp then a file.

I used electrolysis to derust my barrels and head. Large plastic garden tub, solution of Caustic Soda, battery charger.

 I mentioned a while ago that I started finding in gutters, bristles from street cleaner trucks. They are usually about 1/16" thick, 3 or 4 mm wide and  8 - 10 " long , sometimes longer. Made of a spring steel they are really handy for stuff like that and a multitude of other uses.....you'll never find one if you go looking though, until just after you did the job you need it for.. ....friggin Murphy!!
