Anyone got an A65 OIF in Essex Please.
« on: 02.02. 2018 18:00 »
Hi, As a few of you may have guessed, I am restoring a one owner 1971 A65 OIF. This was in a thousand parts when I got it from the widow of a proper old Ace Cafe biker. Workshop manuals are fine but I would love to look at a complete bike and take a few pictures. I want to check the geography of the oil plumbing, wiring and cable routing under the seat. May sound like a daft request, but it would help this silly old person a great deal. Buy you a pint. I am in S/E Essex and can obviously come to you.

Hi

I am fairly sure there is one in my VMCC section. If no other replies I will check on Tuesday and if possible get some pic atrranged. Will not be instant but a backup plan.

Many thanks Angus, no rush; too cold to play in the garage. Regards Colin.

Hi A10JWO

yes there is one in the section, the owner says its all tucked up warm for winter, but gave me 5 pictures. Not very helpful for your specific questions but that would require an accessible bike.
Maybe once the hibernation is over we could arrange something a little more specific or meet on one of our runs (see http://www.ipswich-vmcc.co.uk/events). I would have to pursued him to bring the A65 as he has other bikes and I am not sure I saw it last year. Have added one pic to topic but if you want the other 4 drop me a PM with an email address and Ill email them.

Edited Sorry forgot to mention he also told me one of the classic mags is doing a series on the restoration of an OIF A65, real classic I think he said and started in this month edition.

I’m in Braintree. There is a weekly classic bike night meet up locally – currently at The Crossed Keys in White Notley.

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/''/cross+key+white+notley/@51.8355682,0.5202775,12z/data=!4m8!4m7!1m0!1m5!1m1!1s0x47d8e544052c294f:0x34c4a0a6626475b9!2m2!1d0.590317!2d51.835589

It’s Thursday nights, maybe from around 19:00 (I’m always late arriving down there). So it’s tonight.
This time of year there will only be a handful or so down there, and if there is a bike parked up outside it will be one of mine (and it won’t be an A65).

But I think a couple of the folks have A65s. I can ask around. If you fancy a pint just roll on in.
There must be at least three layers of salt on the roads out there so I’ll only be down if it looks set to at least stay dry.

Really appreciate the offer. I struggle to drive/ride in the dark with my eyes. Nearly bought a house up there. Quite happy to drive up to that area one lunch time midweek if anyone can help.

I currently dont have in complete form, But have 2 in basket case form as well as a multitude of Pre-OIF A65s and those vary from complete to basket cases.  If there is something specific you want a photo of, I might or might not be able to help but willing to try.    :!

I of course am about 9000 miles away???  But if you fancy a project, will be selling off some of the A65 units as projects this spring.  IMHO,, prices for your average Unit A65 are artificially cheap right now and have been other than the rare exception.  I have 2 I am keeping for my personal collection, but selling off the rest as while they are a exceptional value for a classic bike, from a logical point, they are not looking to climb in value enough to be worth re-building them for resale.

Understood. May be easiest if you PM me your 'phone number and I'll drop it in with them in the next week or two if that sounds OK?

(Nearly fell off my Loop heading over there last night - got too used to the linked brakes on the V50 I guess).
