Looking good Brodie....unless things have changed, are you aware that in Qld if you put a disc brake on a bike that didn't previously have one, you need to have an engineers certificate ?

Like I say, things may have changed recently, but fairly sure that's how it was not long ago- worth checking on that before you get in too deep... *contract*

Thanks guys,

I was not aware of the engineering cert for disc brakes but I will check into it.

C'mon duTch, how many bikes (esp in Au) do you know that are 100%. Oh, did I say that out loud?
Every HD I know has all their original stuff (exhausts, front end) in the shed in case of trouble. Oh did I say that out loud? A cert down here is about $4500 (book a race track to do a brake test).
Now to put my senior citizen hat on.
Might be an issue in a prang with insurance.
Cheers

Rego shouldn't be an issue. That will be a while away. I nearly bought a rear guard of fleabay this morning but decided to hold out until the swap meet.

Not sure how well received this post will be but in my quest to build a "modern" A10 from and otherwise scrap frame I have decided to use a Kawasaki engine to power the bike. This is a 500cc 6 speed sadly water cooled parallel twin. Used in many bikes for many years. As the centre engine mounts had been cut off my frame I decided to test the fit of the engine. Looks like I will need a brace forward of the side stand mount and it should work well. So as you can see disc brakes are a bit lower on the engineering concern list

Don't kill me for this blasphemy, I promise to remove the Kawasaki logo from the side.

G'day Brodie.
Think we should continue this over in Chat, Offtopic, Other Bikes, Meetings & Everything Else https://www.a7a10.net/forum/index.php?board=16.0
So the BSK frankenbike is conceived. Wouldn't be the first time a foreign motor was slotted into a BSA frame.
Got me thinking, I have a spare plunger frame and a Yamaha FZ1000 lump  *work* *bash* *pull hair out*.

Perhaps a Yamaha XS650 motor?
Traditional british looks, compact, electric start, powerful enough, 5 speed box, aircooled, plenty of spares availability and responds well to tuning; and has gained respect from trad british riders over the years.

Should not be too hard to find a motor?

See pic of one in a 175 Yamaha frame!

I will start a new thread over in other bikes once I make more progress.

I had an XS2 engine for this frame originally but sold it on to a bloke who was restoring and XS2 with his son. Heaps of parts around for the later xs motors but not for the XS2.

I have this engine running and picked it up with the wiring harness and all needed electrical parts for $200 so it is in my budget. My current bike is a xv1100 so I am not after heaps of power but want something the partner and I can go for a nice cruise on.

Don't kill me for this blasphemy, I promise to remove the Kawasaki logo from the side.

One of the forum high priests, Andrew Guttman who runs Priory Magnetos has an A10 with a ????? engine (I  can't recall the name at the moment). The British army used a motorbike with these engines for a while. If he's reading this he will update me in a minute.

UPDATE: Having made myself a cuppa I've remembered that it's a Rotax engine.
