Where was it bought ? SEV
« on: 12.05. 2018 16:15 »
My 650 BSA was bought new in 1971 and the deceased owner bought it from a local dealer, he lived in Southend. I bought the basket case with no papers, I am trying to find out who was the local dealer for that area back then. Number plate is SEV **K.

The BSAOC should be able to help you with that.
I have a dating certificate for the SA which also mentions the dealer where it was originally sold.

George Cheyne's Motorcycle Showrooms were still at 147 Holburn Street Aberdeen  in the 1982 Telephone Directory,  they were a BSA dealer in 1952.

Also listed as an Aberdeen BSA Dealer in 1952 was John Dawson at 24-26 Thistle Street, they were in the phone book at that address from 1938 til 1973

Yep, the despatch books will probably have the original purchasing dealer, mine was sent to Victor Horseman’s of Liverpool, and they may have sent it to New Zealand which is where it is now.

Edit: see http://www.johnsmotorcyclenews.co.uk/bike-tech/original-factory-records/

New Zealand

1956 A10 Golden Flash (1st finished project)

1949 B31 rigid “400cc hot rod” (2nd finished project, + favourite bike)

1949 C11 rigid, but why!!! (cos it was cheap)

1937 B21, project missing parts, mission impossible?

GL1800 Goldwing, well, the wife likes it

KTM 950 ADV, cos it’s 100% nuts

1952 Armstrong Siddeley Whitley for rainy days (with wife

That is quite a surprise, way up there in Scotland. The only owner before me had the surname of Glover and as far as I know was an Essex lad and was well connected with the Southend Shakedown meeting and the Ace Cafe. Seems strange that it came from so far away. ? Thanks for replies to date.

UPDATE, just done a search on one of the above links. My plate was issued by Essex County Council. My bike is 1972 SEV ** K  ( Sorry ) my other one is 1971   :! !!

The BSAOC can give you some information about when it left BSA and where it went to.
My bike left BSA on 31 Oct 1958 and went to Kingston on Thames to Kingston Motorcycles Ltd. 26 - 28 London Rd, Kingston. Surrey.
