what be this on my frame ?
« on: 13.05. 2018 20:51 »
On the drive side of my A10 frame where the shock absorber top mount, there is a casting inserted, the hole is about 1" at the outside and it tapers down to maybe half an inch at the back. It looks factory, not something bodged at home. The thing is i have no idea what it is for. I have looked on google images and have not seen a frame with the same thing as mine. I really don't care what it is intended to do, its is making bolting on the lifting handle a pain.

Anyone any idea ?

G'day bonny.
I would hazard a guess that a PO made his own sidecar mount. Did a nice job at that.

You might well be right, but if a sidecar was mounted, then i am sure there would be other attachment points, there are none i can see. It really looks factory, very well done, maybe it was a factory option ? The frame is a 1958 by the way.

It's the hole where your toolbox bolts on although Watsonian have used that hole to bolt my sidecar on.

Yes its the toolbox mounting hole alright. Just made huge. I can machine up a little bit of aluminium rod to fill the hole, its just curiosity was getting the better of me as to what it was. Thanks

If the frame is 1958 there should be an attachment point welded into the pillion rest loop as well as a large hole in the flattened top tube under the seat nose.

No trevinoz, it does not have any of those things. Just the large hole in the shock mount.
