Great bikes, but no Austin Sevens! I have an interest as I had this 1929 'Chummy' for many years. It was my first car, in 1967.

It used 3.50 x 19 Sidecar tyres.

Once again, I'm amazed at the bikes you still have down there. And it looks like most are ridden.

Very nice. Thanks.

But you can up the posted picture size quite substantially, on nowadays common higher res displays, 640 x * is not much.
For example, around 1200 x * or 1600 x *.

Been kind of sniffing around Austin 7 basket cases more recently. I really need to move to somewhere where I could have it laid out in a garage full time though. An interesting retirement project I was thinking, if I can avoid keeling over whilst still in harness.

Looked up Austin 7 and surprised to find it's only a 750cc engine. Are they commonly hotrodded with a larger engine, upgraded suspension, etc.? At least where I live, anything that can't maintain at least 70mph cruising speed is just garage art. Just curious....

Your equivalent would be the Model T Ford. I'm sure in the US you have many in original and a restored state. What would be the point of Hot Rodding a model T?

There was a period, 1950 onwards where the Austin Seven, which (as an old banger was then very cheap. Mine cost £40 in 1967) was butchered/tuned/customised. It gave rise to many sports vehicles. Now the cars are mostly sympathetically restored. The chassis is a strange design and not suitable for a modern engine so no point in producing a 100hp version!
My one was good for 50mph and with open cable brakes; rear operated by the foot pedal, front operated by the handbrake lever, three forward gears with no synchromesh, strange rear springing that oversteers, (by poor design), 50mph felt pretty fast!

Austin raced the Seven quite successfully: https://www.motorsportmagazine.com/archive/article/april-1947/9/development-racing-austin-seven

Model Ts have been hotrodded for at least 80 years. Great power to weight ratio. With a small block V8, they can weigh less than a Triumph Spitfire. Steering and suspension upgrades abound. Then of course, there's the Fiat Topolino. I'd guess an Austin 7 could be made crazy fast and fun!

I'm sorry, but the suggestion of fucking up a classic machine horrifies me!
