....“Oi where’s your tax disc then?” “It’s in the post” I replied “Yeah it always effin is” was his response. With that the lights changed and he rode off. Lucky or what? Anyone else had a close shave like that?..
Almost. A few weeks ago, (maybe the day I hit the sunken cover, being right around the corner), I pulled up at lights and had a feeling something was behind me, so had the usual glance over my left shoulder. Sho' nuff, lights changed and lights flashed and hornie-sireny thing (more of a sound blaster these days)....so pulled into the gutter...first thing he said was "where's your reflector...?... ", but before I could come up with anything he looked at the tail-light and satisfied himself that it has a built in reflector...(which they apparently do but not very effective

).
Next inevitable item on the list was ... "...and where's your indicators ? And what is it anyway....?

", so I explained that I know that mandatory fitment to new machines in our State was not effective until 30 June '75 (I actually thought it was '76 so checked the next day), and indicators didn't exist in the '50's.
Not content with that and adamant I should have indicators, he made some phone calls and his mate turned up, and he was on his eyepad thingy googgling and doing all he could for evidence
I explained that I've been through it lots of times since the '70's and know I don't need them. After a bit of debating he said " well if I don't know, I can't give you a ticket..." the only thing I could say to that was " I know I don't need them, and you still can't give me a ticket..

" .....and they climbed on their bikes and rode off in a collective huff....
....and the things I thought funny was being a street away from the wrecker where I found the frame to start the build AND right out front of where the last State distributors (Brisk Sales) for BSA were housed....
And it was a nice mild mid-20˚'s day...
