Swinging Arm Bushes: where to buy in the UK?
« on: 02.07. 2018 16:55 »
Hello, I've been absent  from the forum for about a year now...maybe longer..
Could anyone recommend where to buy new swinging arm bushes for a 1961 A10? Its the hollow spindle.. Andrew Guttmann is closed to until October says the website. I'm in the Uk late this week for two weeks and would very much like to find a pay while I'm there,
Many thanks!
Guy

Kidderminster Motorcycles probably have them. If they do I can buy them for you and get them to you when you are here. Paypal will be fine. Otherwise if you can find them in the Uk get them sent to me if you want. I can send by courier at your cost. Regards Colin.

Where in the UK are you going to be?
I'm willing to pick up from C&D, if they have them, if that helps.

Thank you gentlemen! a very kind offer

Are these the guy?
I'll give them a call later today and see if they have the bushes.. I can probably ask them to deliver..
Someone mentioned on this forum that the wassell bushes have a too small internal shaft for the brake arm to pass through.. Is this something they would be aware of now I wonder?
Thank you again...always a pleasure and super efficient information on this forum!

I don't know about the Wassel bushes having too small an inside diameter, but most of the problem is with outside diameter. Before I knew it was a common problem, installing such bushes was a life changing experience for me. I decided to forgo powder coat on my A7 swingarm to avoid another round of bushing replacement, even though all other solid parts are out for powder.

It seems everyone is out of stock of the Swinging arm bushes...
Does anyone have any experience of milling their own up on a lathe?
Is the rubber buffer between the two surfaces essential?
Just curious...
Thank you!

Guy from my very recent learning, there’s a bit to figure out about silent blocs. the outer tubes press into the swingarm and the inner tubes squishes up against the frame plates and forms a distance piece across with width of the frame. so all the movement of the swing arm is via the flex of the rubber.

Various people here have made various bronze bushes or bearing conversions but it appears to need a fair bit of skill and understanding of what you are trying to replace. I’ve learned a lot from this here:

...which might give you some tips and links to other threads on the topic

Pity to hear you’ve had trouble finding silent blocs – I may be in need of some too.
Good luck!

I've just read through the posts on milling up bronze bush alternatives... I'll stick with the originals.. its seems the simplest solution all round..
