 I *may* have used silicone grease...as I do on gasket 'other' surfaces for easy removal...mostly works well
Started building in about 1977/8 a on average '52 A10 -built from bits 'n pieces never resto intended -maybe 'personalised'
Have a '74 850T Moto Guzzi since '92-best thing I ever bought doesn't need a kickstart 'cos it bump starts sooooooooo(mostly) easy

I'd be vary wary of using standard silicone near any electrical gear. Years ago I had a sideline of repairing Renault electronic  automatic transmission controllers, the first few all came back within days. The silicone I had used had coated the inside with vinegar induced verdigris. Wouldn't want that on the slipring etc. The answer was simply to use none corrosive silicone.

 I'm in two minds about it. It's good for rubber stuff, so i used it on the seal when I put a windscreen in my van, but it seems to go everywhere (usual grease thing), and I seem to have an early morning film that I can't remove- not usually a major issue, just really annoying, but not sure if it's the culprit either.... *conf2*
