Oil in the exhausts

Ever since the engine was rebuilt, I get quite a bit of soot in the silencers with a bit of oil deposit too.  Some have said that it might be worn exhaust valve/guides??  I do use super-unleaded with an lead additive/octane boost. I don't always potter around and usually end the run with a 70mph blast up the M1 (10 miles or so).  plugs are a bit dark with a bit of tan, maybe a bit of a rich mixture, but it ran brilliantly over the weekend (virtually no pinking up the hills, etc), and never missed a beat.  Not overly concerned, change oil every 1000m give or take, what d'you sages reckon?

I have not been to the pub, don't know what your additive is BUT I bought some lead replacement from a garage maybe 12 years ago before I discovered tetraboost, when I took the head off the piston crowns ,head and exhaust valves had a super build up of hard crud. decoked many engines but never one as bad as mine that day

Yes, I used an additive for a while but found the pistons were very coked up and the exhaust was smoky.

Not getting any smoke from the exhaust (except when I put diesel in, of course!) .  Have whipped the plugs out and had and inspection of the piston crowns but they're not looking too bad.  The additive I use is Castrol Valvemaster Plus which is both lead replacement and octane boost.  Not overly fussed as the bike is going really well - may look at tetraboost??

Cheers Musky, at which point should I start to get concerned and replace.  Don't like taking motors apart unless I really, really have to.  Winter project perhaps??

It will be a winter job. If a tappet noise is heard only when hot it's lose. They don't usually cause damage but it is possible at high revs.

Cheers again Musky.  No tappet noise hot or cold as far as I can tell.  I don't thrash the living daylights out of the bike by any means, but I do like to get on with it, if you know what I mean.   Will keep an eye on things and probably whip the head off in the dark months.

pub tomow wortluck check how quickly or longly it takes for the oil to get rate mucky , worn guides usualy muck it up pretty quick, so does badly seated valves , as for the soot is she running a tad rich on certain throttle openings

Why do tomorrow what you can do today - get down the pub, my friend.   Oil does get mucky fairly quickly.  Looks like a couple of things to address when the weather closes in.
